Busy weekend for gymnasts, On Saturday 9th June in Bath, ten gymnasts competed in the Somerset levels and
the Somerset open competition. The Academy fought of stiff competition from gymnasts from Wales and various areas of south west England
to take the majority of the medals. In the level 4 juniors competition, 7 year old Imogen Chan and 8 year olds Georgia Jakubczyk,
April Maslen and Libby Lockett and nine year old Mattie Jones all competed. The Academy dominated the top eight positions, with Libby
became the Somerset overall champion, and silver medallist in the open event, Imogen took silver and April bronze in the Somerset
competition
The Academy took the top eight positions in the Level 4 Senior category. These girls were all ten years of age, making them the youngest
competitors in this category. The overall Somerset level 4 senior champion and winner of the open event was Maisie Kincaid, Jessica Pointon
just missed out on the medals followed closely by Hollie Moore and Olivia Newnham.
In the Level 3, The Academy only had one representative and this was 11 year old Maisie Dodds, who became the overall Somerset champion,
and the open level 4 champion.
On Sunday 10th June, The Academy hosted the National Level 2 Competition. This year The Academy had three representatives, in this national
competition. Very few gymnasts are eligible for this competition in Great Britain, and these included 10 year old Charlotte Bennett,
11 year old Ruby Harrold and eleven year old Poppy Wynn. The girls started on floor, Charlotte being the first floor competitor of the day,
all putting in excellent performances, Ruby bounded out of the floor square and still managed to place in the top ten along with fellow gymnast
Poppy Wynn. Next apparatus was vault were all girls landed their somersault vaults, then bars, all clean performances and Poppy had the fourth
highest score of the day. The last piece was the 4 inch wide beam. Charlotte competed beautifully with very few wobbles, Ruby’s nerves were
showing but overcame them well by putting in a clean performance, Poppy put in a very confident performance, but unfortunately fell on her back
somersault.
The scores from this competition are combined with the Compulsory grade 2 scores that were held in March. With these scores combined Poppy
Became the British combined silver medallist.
