On the 25th and 26th October, British Gymnastics held their Bill Slater Team Championships in Newcastle. Nineteen teams took part from all over Great Britain all trying to win the title of Junior British Team champions. Last year The Academy missed out on the top spot, and this year they were out to win!

The team consisted of 15 year old Maddie Fry, Ruby Harrold, Charlotte Bennett, Maisie Dodds all aged 12 and Lucy Brett and Sophie Jameson both aged 11. Throughout the competition the team only had to count one fall to their team score which is vast improvement to last year!

Lucy placed 11th in the all around, Sophie placed 4th in the all around achieving the highest score on beam and the second highest score on floor, and Ruby top scored the event, achieving the highest score on bars and floor and the second highest score on floor. When all the scores were added up, the team from The Academy, were crowned The Bill Slater team champions of 2008.
