Once again gymnasts from The Academy, in Portishead were out in force. 8 gymnasts competed in the south west Alpha Factor competition, held at Wiltshire school of gymnastics, in Melksham in October, and returned with more medals for the medal cabinet.

In the morning, The Academy's youngest gymnasts competed. Imogen Chan, Libby Lockett and April Maslen all competed in the Level 5 competition. Imogen was 6th on bars and floor, 3rd on beam with a fall, and 2nd on vault, her score total score gave Imogen the bronze medal in the all around event, closely followed by Libby who was only 0.3 behind. April Maslen put in a clean confident performance to come 7th in the all around.

Billie-Jayne Corbett and Mattie Jones competed in the Level 4 category. This was Mattie's first big competition this year, and the nerves were showing with a number of falls on beam, Mattie came 19th in the all around. While Billie with more competition experience won a bronze medal on beam with a clean routine and came 6th in the all around.

In the afternoon Jessica Pointon, Olivia Newnham, and Hollie Moore, competed in the Level 4 10/11 year old category. Hollie Moore, had a costly fall on beam but managed to put in clean performances on the remaining pieces to come 9th in the all around competition, and just missed out on a medal on bars, while Jessica came 6th in the all around event. Jessica excelled on floor becoming the South West floor champion, with Olivia taking the bronze medal.
