The Academy of gymnastics has been busy through the month of March entering competitions held by British gymnastics. The first Competition was the elite compulsory grade 2, which was held at Liverpool. Very few gymnasts are eligible for this grade, if you pass this very prestigious grade, it means, that you are eligible to participate in the British Championships.
Two of The Academy gymnasts fought of stiff competition from over forty other gymnasts to pass with ease. Lucy Brett, placed 10th, with a foot injury, while Sophie Jameson, had an excellent competition, placing second on beam and floor, and took home the silver medal in the all around event. The following week end, saw four Academy gymnasts travel to Newcastle to compete in the "Junior British Schools Girls Apparatus Championships".
Three of The Academy gymnasts were selected to represent the south west junior schools team, and one was selected to represent the Welsh schools team. The Academy Head coach Liz Kincaid was nominated as team manager for the south west region
Ruby Harrold, Sophie Jameson, were competing members of the south west team, with Charlotte Bennett, the reserve. The south west team, performed well, but had a number of falls on various pieces of apparatus. Ruby Harrold, placed joint third on vault, while Sophie Jameson, was placed third in the all around event. Their contribution to the team meant that the south west took home the silver team medal.
Poppy Wynn, was selected to represent the Welsh schools team, again Poppy had a number of falls, but was a valuable member of the Welsh team. The Welsh team took home the title of British schools apparatus champions.
